Solis beats Meza Clay by TKO, Barrera wins via DQ

Jorge Solis (pictured) put himself in line for a shot at the IBF 126 pound title with a TKO victory over Monty Meza Clay in Zapopan Jalisco, Mexico last night. The end came just past the halfway mark of the 5th round, after Solis had hurt the aggressive Pennsylvania fighter with a big right hand counter.

After doing a little stutter step, Meza Clay backed into the ropes and Solis followed, unloading with a two handed attack that prompted the ref to jump in and end it.

Meza Clay was none too happy about the stoppage and argued his case as he was ushered to his corner, saying "I was moving my head, I was moving my head!"

While Meza Clay was buzzed, it looked like he still had most of his wits about him as he ducked and dodged the incoming fire. A couple shots definitely did land clean, but most either missed or were glancing blows, and it looked like Meza Clay may have had a case.

Up to that point, it was an entertaining scrap, with Solis effectively countering Meza Clay's continuous pressure. With the win, Solis, moves to 37-1-2 (his only loss at the hands of Manny Pacquaio), while Meza Clay's record drops to 28-2.

In the other main bout on the card, Marco Antonio Barrera won by DQ, after a head butt opened up a bad gash just over his left eyebrow. With three one sided rounds almost in the books, Barrera's vastly over-matched opponent Freudis Rojas appeared to intentionally lunge with his head, after bull rushing the former champ.

By the looks of the cut, Barrera's upcoming fight with Britain's Amir Khan could very well be off.
